FDA's
requirement that most facilities that manufacture, process, pack,
or hold food intended for human or animal consumption in the United
States must register with FDA went into effect December 12, 2003.
Additionally FDA Prior Notice rule for import went into effect on
the same date. While FDA has said there will be a transition period
during which the Prior Notice requirement for imported foods will
be phased in, don't wait until the last minute. You will need an
FDA Registration number to submit Prior Notice and if you are base
outside the U.S. you will need to appoint an agent.
